Bloomberg News: IRS SAYS BREAST PUMPS AND SUPPLIES ARE NOW TAX DEDUCTIBLE AS OF FEB. 11, 2011

IRS has concluded that breast pumps and supplies that assist lactation are medical care under the Internal Revenue Code 212(d) because like obstetric care, they are for the purpose of affecting a structure or function of the body of the lactating woman.  If taxpayer’s total medical expenses exceed 7.5% of adjusted gross income, expense paid for breast pumps and supplies that assist lactation are deductible medical expense.

The American Academy of Pediatrics says breast milk is the best food for babies and that it can provide long-lasting health benefits.
